Privacy Policy

Welcome to Global Game Jam Next (“GGJN”) Privacy Policy. Global Game Jam (“GGJ,” “we,” “our,” “us”), the operator of GGJN, respects your privacy and values your trust. We have drafted this Privacy Policy to explain how we collect, use, and disclose information through the Global Game Jam Next website, www.globalgamejamnext.org, (the “Website”), and any of the other websites and online services operated by GGJ that link to this Policy (collectively, the “Services”).

By using the Services, you agree to the processing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and is subject to our Terms of Service, which governs our relationship with you. Your use of the Services and any information you provide through the Services is subject at all times to this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service. If you have any questions about our information practices, please contact us at [email protected].

Information We Collect

We collect information in three basic ways: (i) when you actively provide the information to us, such as when you contact us with a question or request, or provide us with payment information; (ii) when event site organizers (“Site Organizers”) provide us with information about participants at the events they host; or (iii) when we automatically collect the information, for example, what browser you are using or other information about your device. You can read more information about these types of collection below, along with other specific information gathered.

Information You Provide. We and our service providers may collect information that you provide us directly. For example, when you set up an educator or Site Organizer account, we will collect basic information about you such as your name, username, password, email address, profile picture, instant messaging username, phone number, address, associated educational institution, and skills. We will also collect any information that you provide when you contact us directly with a comment, question, or request. If you make a donation to GGJ, we will collect payment information, such as a credit card number and billing address.

Information Provided by Site Organizers. Site Organizers may collect data about the participants that attend their events, including: age, sex, and other demographic information. All such information will be collected on an anonymous basis and not associated with any particular individuals. Site Organizers may provide this anonymized information to GGJ.

Information Automatically Collected. We and our service providers may collect or retain information over time and across different websites when you use the Services. For example, depending on how you access and use our Website, the information we collect or retain may include your IP address, your browser type, your operating system, the pages you view immediately before and after visiting the Website, the content you view and access on the Website, and the search terms that you enter on the Website.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. We may automatically collect information using cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies. Cookies are small text files that many websites save on your browser when you visit. These websites access cookies when you return to the site to recognize repeat visitors and to analyze how customers use and access a website. Please review your web browser’s “Help” file to learn how to modify your cookie settings. Keep in mind that removing or rejecting cookies could affect the availability and functionality of the Website. Web beacons are snippets of code embedded in webpages and are typically used to monitor activity on a webpage, collect information, or transfer information to servers.

The Website uses first party cookies (i.e. cookies set directly by us on your device) as well as cookies served by third parties for the purposes outlined below. Some of the cookies the Services use only remain on your device while your browser is open (these cookies are known as “session cookies”) while others remain for longer periods (these cookies are known as “permanent cookies”).

Further information about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set on your device and how to manage and delete them, is available at the following URLs:
www.allaboutcookies.org and www.youronlinechoices.eu.

Other Information. We may collect other information about you that is publicly available, that we receive from third parties and otherwise with your consent, including consent provided to Global Game Jam Next by agreeing to this Privacy Policy.

The Services are dynamic and we are always seeking to improve and enhance our offerings to you. We may introduce new features or enter into new partnerships that may result in the collection of new information. If we begin collecting substantially new types of personal information or materially change how we collect, use, or disclose your data, we will modify this Privacy Policy and notify you as appropriate and as required by law.
