Welcome and Code of Conduct for GGJ NEXT 2020

Welcome to GGJ NEXT

—————————————

We are really excited to have you as part of GGJ NEXT!

GGJ NEXT is a two week long event where you can learn about game design, take part in a game jam, learn new skills and make new friends!

Before you get started, please read the following carefully, as we will need you to agree to follow our rules and code of conduct while you are in this Discord server.

—————————————

GGJ NEXT Code of Conduct

While on this server, you agree to the following rules:

Always welcome GGJ NEXT jammers who you don’t know.

Some people feel very nervous doing new things where they don’t know people. Always be inclusive to all people. Reach out to those around you who are discovering the joy of making games.

Be respectful of different ideas and experiences.

Did you know everyone sees the world differently? That is a beautiful thing. We should celebrate each other’s views. Focus on respecting each other, even if you disagree with what they say.

Be respectful of the space you are in and the tools you have.

You have been invited to take part in this jam by the event leader. Make sure you thank them by respecting the environment you are learning in, and the tools you have for making games. Behave sensibly, calmly and safely even if you feel frustrated.

Only message on the server channels, not private messages.

All communication between jammers, mentors, and instructors should take place within the different channels in this server, and not over PM/DM.

Be ready to learn.

You must always seek to learn more about your game making. You may become really good at a particular skill, but there are always new skills to learn which will be very rewarding.

Ask for help.

Ask for support when you need it, and be brave enough to offer support to others when you find yourself able to. Share what you have made and what you know about making with others.

Be brave and speak up.

Should anything in the jam make you feel unsafe, uncomfortable, insulted, intimidated,

harassed, unwelcome, threatened, or negative in any other way, speak to the event leader, or GGJ Staff (with the blue names) immediately.

Introduce yourself

Now you have read the rules, if you are still happy to take part, press the tick at the bottom of this post to let us know.

Once you have done this, you should be able to see the introductions channel. Please introduce yourself in there, and your site leader will be able to approve you to be part of their channel, to take part in the event.  You could also tell us about your skills and talents with making games, your favorite game, and what you hope to learn in this jam.
